You can only buy new armor from certain NPCs called armorers.
You get new weapons from loots, by killing animales, or by trading certain trophies to collectors, also gained by killing foes. Or, and this is a relyable way as long as you have the money, to trade with other people. If you're lucky, you might see experienced players giving away free decent weapons to newcomer (this often happens in begining towns such as kamadan, shing jea or ascalon). Remember that GWwiki (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page) is a great resource and covers most of your questions, if not, we on guru will be glad to help you And welcome to GW and Guru! ^ All of the above info
Since im guessing you might be in the 'Prophecies' campaign (just called "Guild Wars" on the game case), then Ascalon City is best to hang out there until you get some new Armour & Weapons. (If your factions campaign, then Shing Jea Monastery instead of Ascalon City) (If your Nightfall campaign, then it's Kamadan, Jewel of Istan) I must also add; if your lucky to find someone giving out weapons then great! But don't start constantly begging people for items, money etc. But yep, welcome to Guild Wars and to the Guild Wars Guru! |

If you are new to the game and starting in Prophecies, you would be in a training area known as "pre-searing". IIRC, there are no [armor] or [weapons] NPCs in pre-searing. I think there may be [collector]s in pre-searing which have armor pieces. But for now, just do all the quests you can find in pre-searing before leaving.
There is an NPC in pre, who you talk to who warns you about "leaving everything behind" - when you do, you will be in post-searing and start in Ascalon City. There you will find armor and weapon NPCs (and others) and get access to storage. |
